Liverpool Legend Ian Rush Believes Mario Balotelli will Improve

Liverpool star Ian Rush is sure there will be a significant improvement in Mario Balotelli’s game after the Italy striker scored against Swansea to end his goal drought. Balotelli helped a 2-1 Capital Cup win at Anfield on Tuesday to end a barren run of eight games. Rush who has record of 346 goals for the Reds during two spells thinks Balotelli may get his best form after Daniel Sturridge rejoins.“It is more a thing of confidence, “Rush said. “Maybe it took pressure off him when he was on the bench. Maybe he was more relaxed.”

“People quickly go at someone when it is not doing well like him but I think you should have trust in what he is doing and I hope he will have confidence to do that with this goal. I am not saying it will change quickly but I am saying as much as people reject him when he is not scoring, he was getting the chances and it does not matter if you are missing the chances. I believe when he has scored a goal now it does not mean he will score big number of goals. He will have to work at it and I think he will but I think it has given him and team the confidence.”

Everton Forward Lukaku Salutes Eto’o as His Mentor

Romelu Lukaku says he has been blessed by working along with Samuel Eto'o at Everton. Both of them came from Chelsea but did not produce a partnership because Lukaku spent most of last season on loan at Goodison. Lukaku signed Everton for a club record £28million fee but Eto’o’s free transfer is becoming beneficial for manager Roberto Martinez. The veteran reminded the past against Burnely on Sunday scoring a header and a long ranger and Lukaku who himself scored in the 3-1 victory thinks Eto’o is the ideal mentor who can help him to improve his game.

“He is a player of world class. Throughout his career he has scored many goals and I feel blessed to play with him,” he said. “I pass most of my time with him. I come in and leave at the same time as he does. We are together on and off the ground also doing everything. We compete in training and sprints have to be done by the loser. Quite often we meet each other. He visits my house and I go to his house. I try my best to learn from him as much as I can and he tells me stories about when he was younger”. Lukaku has learned from many senior players and he wants to make his own name. “Samuel is same for me as Drogba and Anelka were for me when I was younger at Chelsea, “he said. “I am blessed to play with top strikers like them. I hope to become one of them in the future.”

Mauricio Pochettino Driving Spurs Out From Tough Period

Mauricio Pochettino recognizes that Tottenham are going through a tough period but is sure they will become stronger after facing these challenges. White Hart Lane had a promising start with four successive wins in Premier League and Europa League but after that they won only two games out of nine. Spurs have descended to ninth position in the Premier League as a result. Pochettino knows that has to reconstruct a system but believes he will succeed if he is allowed time to turn things right. He said: “I have enjoyed my time at Tottenham. We knew we will have a tough period when we signed for Tottenham.  It is a good challenge with the possibility to build something when we have a big club like Tottenham possessing potential.”

Pochettino suggested that Spurs should focus on future rather than remembering the past: “It is not possible for me to talk about past managers, past ideas. The club had Gareth Bale two seasons ago and the club sold him for £100million and now he is not here and Luka Modrio is also not here. Now there is a different challenge with different objective. I have taken idea from the club, from the board and I agree and we should construct something special. We need something different, neither better nor worse than before. We need time to work hard and that is for I am here. I am sure we shall achieve something may be in six months, in one year or in two years. But I am sure the club will win some important trophy in the end.”

Gareth Bale Was Offered to Martin Jol While In Charge of Hamburg

Martin Jol admits he had the opportunity to sign Gareth Bale for just £5million while he had charge of Hamburg. Jol brought Bale to Tottenham Hotspur in 2007 for a £7million deal with Southampton. Bale was not however able to get himself recognized at White Hart lane because Spurs noticed him more as a left back than as a winger. While he was struggling for the game, chairman Daniel Levy decided to sold him in 2008-2009. Jol who knew Bale’s talent was sounded out but Hamburg had not required funds. Thus Bale remained in north London that finally unlocked his potential with becoming the world’s most expensive footballer when he joined Real Madrid for £85million in 2013.

Jol said: “Bale could have been different at Spurs. Spurs took him as left-back but he was not the left-back. He was creative had good pace so everybody felt that as a forward player he was more suited. I observed his potential but other people did not observe him when he was at the early stages of his career so Spurs offered Bale to me. We had to pay five or six million for him which we did not have at that time. I then offered Daniel Levy to take him on loan but it was not possible at that time. Hamburg could have paid £5million for Bale while he was not playing at that time. He was not able to get into the side, so Spurs offered him to other clubs."
