Everton Worry Over Quartet Struggling To Confront West Ham

Darron Gibson, Leighton Baines, James McCarthy and Gareth Barry are all trying to be fit for Everton’s Premier League tour of West Ham on Saturday. Barry and McCarthy picked ankle and hamstring injuries respectively in the 1-1 draw against Sunderland last time. Baines was ruled out of England’s squad for the European Qualifier against Slovenia and the friendly in Scotland after facing a similar problem to that of McCarthy while Gibson had a sore knee issue after playing for 70 minutes in Ireland’s defeat in Glasgow. Everton boss Roberto Martinez said: “Gareth is a player who will recover very soon because he takes care of himself. We will have to confirm it day by day how long he will be out but he is recovering very well.”

“It is second time James has injury of this kind in the last month and that is a bit of worry. We should give him perfect cure so that he may fully fit. When you observe Leighton Baines is coming out of the training session you feel something is wrong but he is responding to the treatment well at the moment. Leighton is a kind of player that recovers very quickly from those types of injuries. Darron Gibson felt soreness in his knee in a match against Scotland. He was on year long layoff with his ligaments so we should be cautious. But I am sure he will be available for training very soon.”
