New Training Center Is Opened By Southampton

Southampton has opened their new training centre on Wednesday. The main building has been named after ex late owner Markus Liebherr. The club was saved from administration in 2009 by Swiss billionaire Liebherr who started to plan for the Staplewood training base but passed away the next year from a heart attack. The club’s sports science, scouting & recruitment, football administration and medical departments, as well as training, changing and dining facilities will be housed in the Markus Liebherr Pavilion. “We are happy to open our new training facility and in doing so we are paying homage to Markus Liebherr,” said chairman Ralph Krueger.

“We will never forget the Markus’ role to save Southampton football club and changing it into the progressive company. Every player and member of staff who passes through these doors will remember Markus’s vision.”  Present owner Katharina Liebherr was also present for the official opening. She said: “It is honour for me to be here. I want to offer thanks on behalf of my father and myself to everybody who took part in the building of this football facility.” The Saints have also plan to enhance the facilities in the Markus Liebherr Pavilion.
